Performance
Fragility / Excess / Speculation
in cooperation with club transmediale (ctm)
Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW)
28 January – 1 February 2009

The fragility of global atmospheric, economic, technological and cultural coherences demands general awareness. The performance programme of transmediale.09 presents works of artists who reflect on the delicate nature of our environment.

  1. "Parallel Head", performance by and with Ryoichi Kurokawa

  2. "Untitled Sound Objects", performance by Pe Lang + Zimoun

  3. "Burning the Sound", performance by and with Rufolfe Quintas

  4. "Overbug", performance by and with Hiroshi Matoba

Domnitch and Gelfand tap into the fragility of materials. Thin slivers of gold spin freely in acoustic suspension and unfold a sonic speculation on the neutralisation of gravity. Pe Lang and Zimoun excite objects of various shapes on glass plates which vibrate and create a sublime sonic landscape. Ryoichi Kurokawa builds up a dense and delicate immersive experience of light and sound and explores the expansion of perception through synaesthesia. Telcosystems take us for a journey through slow-moving cloud clusters, layers of organic structures, deep drones and waves of digital noise. Gaudenz Badrutt and Christian Müller's choreography of ice, water, and wind communicates transience, scale and drama. Radical affirmation and speculative expansion are keys with which these artists open our contemporary condition up for change.

In the evening DJs turn the tables and serve music for a collective recreation with open talk, bar and food. Join the Late Shift of transmediale.09... nightly on the Café Global stage.

The performance programme is organised in cooperation with club transmediale (ctm).
