Sorawit Songsataya
Sorawit Songsataya’s practice explores the dynamic interrelations within the natural world, drawing from the complex belief systems of the artist’s home countries, Thailand and Aotearoa New Zealand. Often employing 3D animation, installation, sculpture, and sound, their recent work repurposes Ōamaru limestone offcuts to unpack politics of place, positionality, and ideas associated with multiple cultural narratives. The cross-cultural associations in Sorawit’s work demonstrate the many folded aspects of transculturality and, at times, the contention that comes with living in a colonial, bicultural country.
