The Nettime mailing list has been an international forum for discussions on net-critique and radical cultural politics since its inception in 1995. Nettime encourages ambitious long-form texts that spin out into extended recension and discussion threads, a process dubbed collaborative text filtering. Over the past year, Nettime has transitioned to a new team of moderators who manage the Mailman list software and has seen the creation of a Mastodon instance in the Fediverse.
In this workshop, list members and the broader public come together for a convivial in-person and hybrid encounter and a public discussion on the state of online debates and net criticism. The workshop invites writers, lurkers, and non-members of the list to an open discussion about platforms and formats, individual online habits and collective strategies, text-generating humans, bots, and LLMs, and the collective future of the mailing list.
Organized by Daniel Brandes, Andreas Broeckmann, Jordan Crandall, Nina Czegledy, David Garcia, Menno Grootveld, Ashiq Khondker, and Anne Roth.
