For the first decade of todayâs transmediale, Kain Karawahn was a participant in almost every edition. His video Wundbrand (with sound by Blixa Bargeld) was shown at VideoFest â92. Karawahnâs artistic performances in the 1980s and 90s all used or referred to fire in one form or another. âAll cosmic existence, all earthly life, and thus every activity is based on the principle of combustion (thermodynamic equilibrium). With the use of red, the most intensively âhatedâ color in video technology, and many fire imagesâfrom TV static to freezer burnâWundbrand attempts to visualize the âinner fireâ of the civilized, urban human without trying to explain what it actually means.â (Kain Karawahn)
