Abdul Halik Azeez is a multidisciplinary artist from Colombo, Sri Lanka, based in Stuttgart in a residency with Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2026 . Working across performance, video, installation, and writing, my practice explores ways of knowing that privilege the spiritual, affective, and ephemeral over the strictly rational or empirical.
Before art he worked across corporate, academic, and development sectors; a background that shapes how I think about institutions, knowledge, and power. In 2019 he co-founded The Packet, a collective of Sri Lankan artists committed to thinking together in public.
His work is grounded in decolonial thinking, public media and technology. Recent projects have examined the impact of Instagram visual culture on tourism in Sri Lanka, and TikTok as a space of algorithmically mediated ritual healing – tracing parallels between trance possession and the affective logic of social media.
