Leonel VĂĄsquez

Leonel VĂĄsquez is a Colombian sound artist whose creative work develops from sound as a plastic material and as the core of their research-based and interaction-oriented practices within specific cultural, political, and environmental contexts. Their work has taken form as sculptures, installations, and performances. They explore sound and its subtle ways of inhabiting bodies, spaces, and landscapes. Across their projects, they have been interested in the limits of human listening, the potential of new sonic environments, forms of fixation and sonic memory, electromagnetic substance, the mechanical vibration of sound, and modes of listening within liquid media, among others.

They are part of Colectivo Werebere (Colombia) alongside Esmeralda RamĂrez. They work as a lecturer and tutor in the fields of media and sound art at the Universidad del Tolima, the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and the Universidad de los Andes.
